Facebook Launches Verified Accounts: What Hoteliers Can Do


Yesterday Facebook announced verified accounts. Like Twitter, Facebook wants to empower its users to know that the profiles and Pages they are following are authentic. Followers will know a page is verified when they see a blue check mark next to the brand name. While the process might change, today Facebook is only verifying celebrity, public official and brand Pages with large followings. Other companies cannot yet request verification. Even though your brand cannot request verification, you can report fake accounts that are impersonating your hotel or restaurant to Facebook. With the increase in popularity of Facebook’s check-in feature over the last few years, many hotels and restaurants have had duplicate listings created by followers that are entirely unrelated to their respective Facebook Pages. To remedy this, conduct an audit of both Facebook’s desktop and mobile platforms and report any erroneous duplicate listings that you find about your brand. If no one is managing an active Page created about your brand, you can claim the business listing and then merge it with the existing Page you currently manage. By taking these steps, you will at least optimize your Facebook presence and ensure fans find you where you want them.
