I received an interesting email from TripAdvisor this morning. The review site is now sharing a ‘reviewer badge’ next to reviews so readers can see how much review experience the author has. The more reviews that you write, the more impressive your badge will be. For example, with eight reviews under my belt, I am a Senior Reviewer. My goal is to be a Top Contributor.
Badges have become a popular way to encourage participation and share clout. Location-based services, for example, have made acquiring badges part of the fun of checking in. I am looking forward to seeing whether displaying a user’s badge on TripAdvisor drives more reviews.
For the hotelier, badges will allow you to see how experienced a reviewer is and whether he/she is writing a one-off review or considers himself/herself a review and travel expert.
